Room Divider - Umbra and Dvider.com

I've been looking for the perfect room divider, but have been having a lot of trouble finding one.

I rent my apartment and was hoping to use the Ikea diginet to hang my curtains, but I can't find the stud to nail it into. I even bought a stud find which proved to be useless.

My new brilliant idea is to find something that has a tension pole mechanism that runs from floor to ceiling. The problem with this is there seems to be very few things on the market that I can actually buy to do this. I have provided pictures of two systems below, one is made by Umbra and the other by dvider. They both have their flaws, which I will explain below.

The bottom picture (of left) is the Umbra Anywhere system. It sells for about $90 bucks for each of the tension sets, so what is shown in the picture would cost you about $160 @ buidler's square. From the reviews I have found, which seem to be few and far between, this system can only handle extremely light weight sheers. It also is not as stable as it looks and many of the reviewers have had trouble keeping the swing mechanism in place.

The system on the top (or right) just looks phenomenal doesn't it? The problem with this system, which is sold by dvider.com, is that it costs around $700. I'm not willing to the pay that much, are you? You can just buy the tension pole from them, or at least it seems like it (the site is semi-confusing), but it still adds up to be more than I am willing to pay.

If any of you have any better ideas for what I can do, it would be much appreciated.

Blanca Settee

Along with the Red Sofa I purchased, I also bought the Blanca Settee from pottery barn in the black tile print.

I originally wanted the color scheme of my apartment to be on the bright fun side, but now with the red couch and the black and tile settee, I'm not sure what colors I could add in to brighten things up.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Sofa

After searching and searching, I finally found a SOFA that I think I will love. I say think because I haven't seen the sofa yet, and I saw the same style sofa but in the "stone" variety at Macy's. From the looks of the stone model, I think this sofa was a steal! For 999 it comes with a floating chase. What does that mean? It means the chase can be attached to the left or right side of the sofa. Awesome huh?

So what did I buy? I bought the Bacall Sofa in Red microsuded.

Exciting!

White Pedestal Dining Table

I saw a pedestal dining table in crate and barrel that I absolutely fell in love with. The table alone cost $499 and each chair was approximately $139 a piece. Doing some quick math, I realized the table with four chairs would cost approximately $1,000, which I am not mentally prepared to pay. So with the help of the internet, I found a very similar table and chair set for a grand total of $500 bucks. Half the price and it looks almost exactly the same…check it out for yourself below.

Sky High Prices

Literally. I am flying from San Fran to Houston today, and as many other travelers probably do, I was feeling hungry. I decided that I wanted something chocolaty and stepped into a magazine shop in Southwest’s terminal. I picked up a cookie covered in chocolate, expecting it to be $1.35 or so, and to me surprise, it was $4.95!?!? $4.95 for a biscuit covered in chocolate, ridiculous. I don’t consider myself to be price sensitive, but this was just outrageous and rather appalling. Who can afford that or would be willing to buy it? The lady behind the counter acted as if I was cheap for being shocked that the price of the cookie was $4.95, but all I could help thinking was, are you really judging me?

New Apatment, New Pierce

I found a new apartment in San Fran that I am totally excited about. I will be paying more than I wanted to, but it was just too cute to pass up. The 1930's charm has been preserved, but its been updated and is extremely well maintained.

I have posted pictures for your viewing please or mine. Over the next several months I will slowly start adding my own flare to it.

This is the beginning of the end

This is the beginning of the end...9 days till a 2.5 year chapter closes. I suddenly have the urge to start a blog. I have no idea what I will fill it with, but some thoughts are outlined below.

1. Record random thoughts/brilliant ideas

2. Track progress of apartment design

3. Document the journey at VISA

4. Advertisements to sell my furniture

5. My life
