I've been looking for the perfect room divider, but have been having a lot of trouble finding one.
I rent my apartment and was hoping to use the Ikea diginet to hang my curtains, but I can't find the stud to nail it into. I even bought a stud find which proved to be useless.
My new brilliant idea is to find something that has a tension pole mechanism that runs from floor to ceiling. The problem with this is there seems to be very few things on the market that I can actually buy to do this. I have provided pictures of two systems below, one is made by Umbra and the other by dvider. They both have their flaws, which I will explain below.
The bottom picture (of left) is the Umbra Anywhere system. It sells for about $90 bucks for each of the tension sets, so what is shown in the picture would cost you about $160 @ buidler's square. From the reviews I have found, which seem to be few and far between, this system can only handle extremely light weight sheers. It also is not as stable as it looks and many of the reviewers have had trouble keeping the swing mechanism in place.
The system on the top (or right) just looks phenomenal doesn't it? The problem with this system, which is sold by dvider.com, is that it costs around $700. I'm not willing to the pay that much, are you? You can just buy the tension pole from them, or at least it seems like it (the site is semi-confusing), but it still adds up to be more than I am willing to pay.
If any of you have any better ideas for what I can do, it would be much appreciated.

I'm in the same boat - looking for an affordable and good looking room divider solution. Everything I've found that I like costs $1000 or more. Sigh.
I may build something if I can come up with the right idea...
Hi - Funny - just stumbled on your pst as I'm looking foir the EXACT same thing - did you have any luck wirh anything like the dvider rods that were way less $$?
Here is a possible solution. IKEA has a tention pole called: STOLMEN Post. it is white and is approximately $50.00 each. They are very sturdy. Can reach ceilings of about 9 feet or less. Once you have the two posts, let your imagination run wild.
